E-mail Explanation

Hi everyone,

Guess what-- the text is all laid out for the remaining 3 Jr Ranger booklets! Wooooo, just in time for the holidays. I've put the individual images up on the blog, nocajr.blogspot.com, and am attaching the .pdf files.

Timeline: The purpose of this round of editing is to nail down the written content. While you all are working on that, I'll be finishing up the graphics and will release those mid-january. ALL EDITS, both text and graphics, ARE DUE BY JAN 31st, please. :)

A few initial thoughts:
-I've tried really hard to incorporate the majority of the comments I've received thus far, especially the latest content sent by Marieke on Monday Dec 15. I figured that was the most up-to-date text. If I missed something, it was unintentional, probably :). If a suggestion was about a graphic, I'll take that into account in my next stage of the design process (between now and mid-January).

-This is still a draft form and still has tightening, graphically speaking. I just wanted to make sure all the text and graphics fit where they needed to. Every time I look through the booklets, I have my own changes I want to make-- but for the sake of moving forward, I have to send them out at whatever stage they're at, right?

-Some of the pages and activities are in different orders than in earlier versions, mostly to take into account 2-page spreads that had to face each other.

-Most of the edits I received were "additions," as in additional text. Please keep that in mind as you go through these edits. We're starting to get to the limit of how much text each page can hold, particularly in the Mountain Goat booklet. You'll see that we're starting to sacrifice opportunities for illustrations and other graphics (which is okay, if that's what we all decide). I know it's hard to do (like picking your favorite child), but if there's any places we can take out text, please consider it.

Edits:
Does everyone have the capability to make corrections directly within the .pdf files, ie adding those little comments and notes? This way it will be easier to see where and what you are talking about. Let me know if you can't and we'll figure out a better way of gathering feedback.

QUESTION FOR THE GROUP: Should all edits come to me/group? Or should they all go to Marieke who can then synthesize them into more concise and organized documents?

Any additional thoughts or clarifications?

Thanks everyone. These are going to turn out to be great products and really help get kids connected to the North Cascades.

Michael
